The School Library System (SLS), established by Commissioner's Regulations in 1985, is a fully state funded program. It supports the instructional program and informational needs of the students and staff in the public and non-public schools of the Genesee Valley BOCES region. An advisory council of librarians, administrators, technology representatives and teachers determine policy, and a liaison group of School Library Media Specialists representing each of the 22 public school districts and non-public school representatives determines procedures.

Help the SLS Celebrate National Gaming @ Your Library Day!

We the People Bookshelf

The School Library System of Genesee Valley BOCES, applying on behalf of the member libraries of the region, was selected as a recipient of the We the People Bookshelf "Created Equal" project. This collaboration between the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities provides free resources to libraries to help students explore a topic. By reading some of the 17 titles provided K-12, the students of our region will develop a more clear sense of equality. A regional website is being developed to allow students to share these thoughts in writing, as podcasts, and through discussion with peers.

Congratulations also to librarian Clare Keating at York Central School who applied for and was accepted to the We the People Bookshelf project individually.

Christopher Harris - Library Journal Mover and Shaker

The School Library System is very honored to announce the naming of Coordinator Christopher Harris as a Library Journal Mover and Shaker for 2008.

"Christopher Harris says he switched from teaching to administrative support because he wanted to have an impact on more students—he now impacts 26,000 as coordinator for Genesee Valley BOCES. Charged with providing automation, online media resources, and professional development offerings to 22 small, rural New York school library districts, he is leading librarians and students into a Library 2.0 future through a combination of idealism and pragmatism."
