Print in the picture at upcoming PIA event

The Orientation to the Graphic Arts workshop is taking place over three days this October in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.

The session will be hosted by Joe Martin, who is a senior analyst in digital technologies with the Printing Industry of America (PIA). It is aimed at anyone involved in the printing process, regardless of whether they are printing company employees, suppliers, vendors of printing equipment, or even those who regularly buy printed products.

Those who attend the workshop will design and produce a printed piece from beginning to end using prepress, pressroom, and bindery equipment. They will learn about workflow, desktop publishing and design, and a variety of printing processes, including flexography, offset lithography and digital printing, color reproduction and theory, and digital printing. Information on bindery operations will show how to give printed items the finishing touch.

The training will consist of hands-on activities, classroom sessions, and demonstrations of the printing process. Students should come away from the workshop with a better understanding of the entire printing process and the technical language of the print industry. It will allow those who solicit printing services to understand the process from start to finish, so they can make a more informed decision on their next purchase.

Orientation to the Graphic Arts will be held at the PIA headquarters in Sewickley, PA from October 21-24 between the hours of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm each day. Fees are $1,095 for PIA members and $1,595 for non-members. To learn more about the workshop, contact the PIA at 412-741-6860.
